China Tungsten Carbide Industry 2023 Half-Yearly Statistical Summary

56 companies provided statistical data, including 3 manufacturers of tungsten smelting products and 1 manufacturer of tools. This statistical summary includes data such as tungsten carbide output, tungsten smelting product output, foreign exchange earned from hard export, operating income, profit tax and profit, etc., which can basically reflect the production and operation status of the industry in the first half of the year.

In the second quarter, my country’s total output and benefits of tungsten carbide decreased year-on-year except for the export of tungsten carbide, but the decline was significantly narrower than that in the first quarter. According to the statistics of 56 enterprises, the output of tungsten carbide in the second quarter was 12,599.15 tons, an increase of 20.97% from the previous quarter; the cumulative production of tungsten carbide in the first half of the year was 23,047.08 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.14%. Considering the unstated data in the society, it is estimated that the national output of tungsten carbide is about 25,500 tons. Economic benefit indicators show that in the first half of 2023, the total operating income of the tungsten carbide industry was 19.453 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.61%, and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 13.59% in the second quarter; of which the main business income was 18.714 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.51%, and a quarter-on-quarter increase in the second quarter. 11.26%; realized profits and taxes of 2.026 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 10.48%, and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 20.24% in the second quarter; realized profits of 1.509 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 15.55%, and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 23.44% in the second quarter; tungsten carbide exports earned 346 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase 8.45%, an increase of 34.42% in the second quarter.

First, China’s tungsten carbide output in the second quarter

1. Total tungsten carbide output

According to statistics provided by 51 enterprises (see attached table 1), the total output of tungsten carbide in the second quarter was 12,599.15 tons, an increase of 20.97% from the previous quarter, and the cumulative production of tungsten carbide in the first half of the year was 23,047.08 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.14%. According to the information we have, there are still about 2,400 tons of hard alloys in the society that have not been counted. Based on this, it is estimated that the actual total output of hard alloys in the country in the first half of the year is about 25,500 tons, and the statistical quota accounts for 90.38% of the actual total output. . Compared with the same period last year, 28 companies increased production by 1486.35 tons, 21 companies reduced production by 1749.5 tons, 1 company’s data was flat, and 1 company’s data was incomparable. The actual net reduction in total tungsten carbide output was 263.15 tons.

2. Classified output of tungsten carbide

(1) Tungsten carbide for cutting tools

Tungsten carbide for cutting tools includes CNC inserts, traditional inserts, bars and other cutting carbides. According to statistics provided by 41 companies, the output of tungsten carbide for cutting tools in the second quarter was 6374.12 tons, an increase of 29.54% from the previous quarter; in the first half of the year, the cumulative production of alloys for cutting tools was 11298.69 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.85%, accounting for 20% of the total output of tungsten carbide. 49.02%. Compared with the same period of last year, 19 enterprises increased production by 571.77 tons, 21 enterprises reduced production by 1400.72 tons, and 1 enterprise had incomparable data. The actual net reduction in the output of tungsten carbide for cutting tools was 828.95 tons.

Among them, according to the statistics provided by 20 CNC blade manufacturers, the production of CNC blades in the second quarter was 163.2866 million pieces, an increase of 20.97% from the previous quarter; the cumulative production of CNC blades in the first half of the year was 29,718.86 tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.97%. Compared with the same period of last year, 15 enterprises increased production by 29.9771 million pieces, 4 enterprises reduced production by 10.8756 million pieces, and 1 enterprise had an incomparable actual net increase of 19.1015 million pieces of CNC blades.

According to statistics provided by 28 companies, the output of tungsten carbide bars in the second quarter was 4,084.97 tons, a month-on-month increase of 38.61%; the cumulative production of bars in the first half of the year was 7,032.18 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%. It accounts for 30.51% of the total production of tungsten carbide and 62.21% of the category of alloys for cutting tools. Compared with the same period last year, 12 companies increased production by 566.06 tons, 14 companies reduced production by 928.32 tons, 1 company’s data was flat, and 1 company’s data was incomparable. The actual net reduction in tungsten carbide rod production was 362.26 tons.

(2) Tungsten carbide for rock drilling and engineering

Tungsten carbide for rock drilling and engineering includes button teeth, coal cutting teeth, Shu pieces, percussion drill pieces, snow removal teeth and other hard alloys for rock drilling and engineering. According to statistics provided by 21 companies, the output of rock drilling and engineering alloys in the second quarter was 2,816.05 tons, a month-on-month increase of 21.04%; the cumulative production of rock drilling and engineering alloys in the first half of the year was 5,147.29 tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.7%; 22.33% of production. Compared with the same period last year, 14 companies increased production by 1022.87 tons, 6 companies decreased production by 327.52 tons, and the data of 1 company was incomparable. The actual net increase in rock drilling and engineering alloys was 695.35 tons.

Among them, 11 companies produced 1,191.74 tons of button alloys in the second quarter, an increase of 26.2% from the previous quarter, and a total of 2,136.04 tons of button alloys were produced in the first half of the year, an increase of 29.9% year-on-year; accounting for 9.27% of the total output of tungsten carbide, accounting for 9.27% of the total production of tungsten carbide, and accounting for 1.5% of the total output of rock drilling and engineering. 41.5% of the alloy category is used. Compared with the same period of last year, 9 enterprises increased production by 618.44 tons, and 2 enterprises decreased production by 126.76 tons. The actual net increase in button alloy production was 491.68 tons.

(3) Carbide for wear-resistant parts

Alloys for wear-resistant parts include roller rings, top hammers, press cylinders, drawing dies, cold pier and cold stamping dies and other wear-resistant parts. According to statistics provided by 26 companies, the output of alloys for wear-resistant parts in the second quarter was 3022.64 tons, an increase of 7.87% from the previous quarter, and the cumulative production of alloys for wear-resistant parts in the first half of the year was 5809.11 tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.62%. Accounting for 25.21% of the total output of tungsten carbide. Compared with the same period of last year, 13 enterprises increased production by 435.47 tons, 11 enterprises decreased production by 344.31 tons, and 2 enterprises had incomparable data. The actual net increase in output of wear-resistant parts was 91.16 tons.

(4) Other tungsten carbide

Other tungsten carbides include steel-bonded alloys and tungsten carbides for other purposes, such as tungsten carbides for craft jewelry, including watch cases, watch chains, rings, etc. According to statistics provided by 13 companies, the output of other tungsten carbides in the second quarter was 364.39 tons, a decrease of 18.28% from the previous quarter. In the first half of the year, the cumulative production of other tungsten carbides was 766.01 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 27.27%, accounting for 3.32% of the total output of tungsten carbides. .

3. Carbide mixture

According to statistics provided by 18 companies, a total of 7,056.34 tons of tungsten carbide mixtures were produced in the second quarter, an increase of 14.71% from the previous quarter; the cumulative production of tungsten carbide mixtures in the first half of the year was 13,207.8 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.18%. Compared with the same period last year, 8 companies increased production, 9 companies reduced production, and 1 company’s data was incomparable. The actual net reduction in tungsten carbide mixture output was 23.67 tons.

4. Hard surface material

Hardfacing materials include cast tungsten carbide, spray alloy powder, copper-based electrodes and other hardfacing materials. In the second quarter, a total of 5 enterprises produced 876.39 tons of hard-facing materials, an increase of 2.24% from the previous quarter. In the first half of the year, the cumulative production of hard-facing materials was 1,747.81 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.56%. Output of tungsten refining products of some enterprises

This statistical index value only lists some of the raw materials used for the production of tungsten carbide, including the statistics of tungsten powder, tungsten carbide powder, tungsten-containing secondary resource recycling and utilization of three types of products, and the statistics of the self-consumption of tungsten powder.

Second, the output of tungsten refining products of some enterprises

1. Tungsten powder

The output of tungsten powder in the second quarter was 13,491.48 tons, an increase of 7.08% from the previous quarter; the cumulative production of tungsten powder in the first half of the year was 26,091.37 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.16%. Among them, the self-consumption of tungsten powder in the second quarter was 9,743.82 tons, an increase of 14.2% from the previous quarter; the cumulative self-use of tungsten powder in the first half of the year was 18,275.89 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.91%, accounting for 70.05% of the total output of tungsten powder.

2. Tungsten carbide powder

The output of tungsten carbide powder in the second quarter was 12,670.37 tons, an increase of 10.78% from the previous quarter, and the cumulative production of tungsten carbide powder in the first half of the year was 24,108.17 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.92%.

3. Recycling and utilization of tungsten-containing secondary resources

In the second quarter, the recycled tungsten-containing secondary resources amounted to 3,078.32 tons, an increase of 15.85% from the previous quarter. In the first half of the year, the accumulated recycled tungsten-containing secondary resources amounted to 5,791.19 tons, a year-on-year increase of 25.75%. Among them, in the first half of the year, the recycling of tungsten carbide lumps totaled 5,366.19 tons, an increase of 22.82% year-on-year, accounting for 92.66% of the total recycling of scrap tungsten carbide, and zinc melt was 3,134.08 tons, accounting for 58.4% of the total recycling of tungsten carbide lumps , 1795.51 tons of electrolytic tungsten carbide, accounting for 33.46% of the total recycling of tungsten carbide block materials; the recycling of soft tungsten carbide materials and other tungsten-containing secondary resources only counts Hunan Jindiao Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
